Ukraine is an Eastern European country. The area it occupies is 576,604 thousand km ² (if you do not take into account the disputed territories of the Crimean peninsula). This is 47th place among all countries of the world.

Geographical position of Ukraine
The territory of the country stretches for 1316 km from the westto the east, and to 893 km from north to south. Most of these territories are in the south-west of the East European Plain. Thus, the main relief of the country is flat, and only in the south-west of Ukraine are the mountains of the Carpathians and the highest point of the country - Hoverla (2,061 m above sea level). From the southeast Ukraine is washed by two seas: Black and Azov. The coast of the seas is mostly shallow, which contributes to the development of recreational resources. There are many rivers and lakes on the territory of Ukraine.
The length of land borders of Ukraine with the familyThe countries of Europe (from west to east: Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Belarus, Russia) is 5,638 km. By sea the country is connected with Bulgaria, Turkey and Georgia. The total length of the sea borders is 1355 km (with Russia and Romania).
The extreme points of Ukraine:
- in the north - Gremyach village, Chernihiv region;
- in the east - Chervonaya Zirka, Melovsky district, Lugansk region;
- in the south - the city of Izmail, Odessa region;
- in the west - the village of Solomonovo, Transcarpathian region.
